Guwahati: Lachit the Warrior is set to come alive again - this time in the cyber world.

On his 395th birth anniversary on Friday, Lachit Borphukan, the Ahom commander-in-chief known for his role in the Battle of Saraighat, got a mobile game app of his own.

The Battle of Saraighat was fought in 1671 between the Mughals and the Ahoms along the Brahmaputra here. The Ahom general defeated the invaders with his tactical skills.

The mobile game app has been designed by a team of Assamese youths, named the North East India Animator. The team, led by Jiten Das, the officer-in-charge of traffic, Gorchuk police station here, comprises Hirak Deka, Pankajananda Deka and Biki Das.

"It is an app with a character named Lachit. Users can be part of the Saraighat battle between the Mughal and Lachit's armies. It's the first version of the app and we shall soon launch another one with other historical wars of the era," Jiten said.

The Google app launch coincided with Lachit Diwas, observed in the state on November 24 every year.

Das said, "Three months ago, when I was posted at Panbazar police station, one evening I was at Machkhowa where the 35-foot statue of Lachit Borphukan is located. I noticed a small boy with his father, pointing towards the statue and asking its name. The idea of the app came to my mind. Our aim is to popularise Lachit Borphukan among the youth."

Jiten has done the animation for the app, the designing by Hirak Deka and Biki Das and programming and developing by Pankajanada Deka. The app was launched after the team worked on it for three months.

"The app is totally free and now available in Google play store from today," Deka said.
