
UNDER-16 CRICKET
Guwahati, Oct. 19: Damien A. Sereng's blitzkrieg century helped Don Bosco School drub Gurukul Grammar Senior Secondary School by 187 runs in today's match of the sixth Sitaram Agarwala Under-16 Inter-school Cricket Tournament organised by Bud Cricket Club at Nehru Stadium here.
Electing to bat, Don Bosco took advantage of Gurukul Grammar's weak bowling attack and launched an all out assault from the outset. Don Bosco were bowled out in 47 overs but not before piling up a mammoth 332 to put the opponents on the back foot.
Damien raced to 136 runs in just 79 deliveries with three over the boundaries and as many as 24 hits to the ropes. Reshab Barman and Manikarna Sarma scored 38 runs (4x3) in 60 balls and 32 runs (4x3, 6x3) in 36 balls respectively.
Abhijit Mandal took six Don Bosco wickets but was expensive, conceding 56 runs in eight overs. Dhritiman gave away 58 runs in 10 overs for a wicket.
In reply, Gurukul Grammar were bundled out for 145 in 24.1 overs. Dhritiman Deka was the only batsman to withstand the Don Bosco onslaught with an unbeaten 56 runs off 57 balls. The rest of the batsmen crumbled under pressure and failed to get to double figures.
For Don Bosco, Samarpan Bhuyan took three wickets conceding 46 runs, Abaneesh Medhi took two wickets giving away 22 runs while Manikarna took one wicket, conceding 23 runs.
Damien was adjudged the Man of the Match.
The meet goes into mini recess for Durga Puja. Royal Global School take on Modern English School on Friday.
