Inter-school cricket

Guwahati, Nov. 2: Don Bosco High School crushed Gurukul Grammar School by eight wickets while SBOA Public School registered a marginal 10-run win over Faculty High School in two all-Guwahati encounters of the 7th Golap Hazarika all-Assam inter-school (under-14) cricket meet at Dispur Parade Ground here today.

In the first match, the Bosconians rode an unbeaten 42 by Dipankar Kalita to reach 88 for two in just 14 overs of the 20-overs-a-side match. Johnson Kalita scalped two Don Bosco wickets conceding 17 runs.

Earlier, Gurukul Grammar School were restricted to 87 for eight. Pranot Kumar was the only notable scorer for the side with 25 runs.

Sourav Nath and Dipankar shared two wickets each, conceding six and eight runs respectively.

Dipankar was adjudged man of the match.

In the other match of the day, SBOA Public School posted a modest total of 106 for six in the allotted 20 overs with Tarkish Zaman and Firoz Alam contributing 19 and 17 runs respectively. Prateek Neog of Faculty captured two wickets for 14 runs.

The Faculty batsmen were soon bundled out for a meagre 96 runs.

Udyan Bordoloi was the only notable scorer for Faculty with 15 runs.

Angshuman Bhattacharjee ripped through the Faculty innings, notching three for eight to be adjudged man of the match.

Little Flower School will meet Pearl Valley School while Srimonta Sankar Academy clash with SBOA Public School in tomorrow?s matches.

College cricket: The River Rine Cricket Coaching Centre will organise an inter-college invitation cricket tournament at Latasil Ground in Guwahati from November 15.

The participating colleges have been asked to file entries latest by Saturday at Laxmi Stores next to the tournament venue.

The All Assam Students? Union and Gauhati University, which has been making efforts to revive the inter-college cricket tournament, have assured assistance to the organisers, the organising secretary, Ranjit Sarma said.

The River Rine coaching centre has been successfully organising an inter-school tournament for the last couple of years. The centre also organised a monthlong exposure tour to Delhi for its trainees, where they played leading outfits of Delhi and adjoining areas during the summer holidays.
