Guwahati, Feb. 17: Dainik Batori today qualified for the semifinals from Group D, defeating Outstation Journalists by 142 runs in the ongoing eighth Guwahati Press Club Challenge inter-media cricket meet at Latasil Ground here.

Dainik Batori elected to bat and rode an unbeaten 210-run third wicket partnership between Dipak Das and Par-thib Hazarika to pile up 265 for two in the stipulated 20 overs.

Chasing the mammoth target, the Outstation Journalists team was restricted to a modest 123 for seven in 20 overs.

Opener Purbajyoti Chutia gave the Dainik Batori innings a solid start, hammering five boundaries to score 23 runs.

However, it was first man in, Dipak Das (98 not out), who toyed with the Outstation bowlers to find the ropes across the ground. He hit nine sixes and six fours. Parthib Hazarika gave Das steady company, scoring an unbeaten 107. He hammered three sixes and 18 boundaries.

Debankur Gohain of Outstation Journalists claimed one wicket conceding 30 runs, while Bhaskar Hazarika topscored with 26.

Manabendra Sarma of Dainik Batori captured two wickets for 24 runs and Dipak Das claimed one for 17.

Aji will clash with The Telegraph and Dainik Janasadharan meet Janambhumi in tomorrow?s matches.
