Hailakandi, Sept. 10: The chairman of the governing body of Karimganj's Rabindra Sadan Girls' College, Nibaran Das, has sent a detailed report to the directorate of higher education, Assam, in Guwahati on an incident in the college which involved the arrest of its principal.

Das said he was asked to submit the report within two days and he sent it yesterday.

A four-member committee was formed to inquire into the matter, which included Das, teachers Asmat Sultana and Nivedita Nath of the same college and Monolina Nandi Roy of Karimganj College.

Das said a meeting of the governing body was held to discuss the issue and they were waiting for the decision of the directorate of higher education.

The principal of Rabindra Sadan Girls' College, Karimganj, Ashok Kumar was arrested on Thursday for misbehaving with students and sending indecent messages to them through social media.

The district and sessions judge rejected his bail plea and sent him to custody.

Karimganj deputy commissioner Pradip Kumar Talukdar has already ordered a magisterial inquiry.

The arrest of the principal was also raised in the Assembly by North Karimganj MLA Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha on Friday.

The president of Karimganj district unit of the BJP, Subrata Bhattacharjee, criticised the role of Purkayastha for keeping mum regarding the incident.

Purkayastha allegedly played some role in bringing him as the principal in Rabindra Sadan Girls' College from Hailakandi S.S. College, he added.
