Chandrapur annex title

Chandrapur High School, Kamrup (metro), annexed the Dewkon Trophy Inter-district School (under-17) Football Tournament title edging past Simaluguri Higher Secondary School, Sivasagar, 4-3 in the final at Nehru Stadium here yesterday.

UNDER-17 FOOTBALL

Guwahati, July 25: Chandrapur High School, Kamrup (metro), annexed the Dewkon Trophy Inter-district School (under-17) Football Tournament title edging past Simaluguri Higher Secondary School, Sivasagar, 4-3 in the final at Nehru Stadium here yesterday.

The Sivasagar outfit drew first blood through Rupomjyoti Gogoi in the 16th minute.

Having conceded the goal, the home side found the equaliser through Subham Chetry in the 33rd minute. Rupamjyoti ruffled the net again in the 45th minute put his side ahead with a 2-1 margin at half-time.

After the break, Arnal Marak restored parity for Chandrapur School in the 46th minute and Chetry fashioned the lead for the Kamrup (metro) side in the 64th minute.

Sobhankar Das fired in an equaliser for Simaluguri School once again in the 72nd minute and the match headed almost for a penalty shootout when Chetry struck for his third goal and the match winner for the home side two minutes into the added time.

The Kamrup (metro) school handed a 4-2 defeat to Goalpara in the semi-finals on Saturday. Sivasagar edged past Kokrajhar 7-6 via tie-breakers after the regulation time ended in a 3-3 draw.

Sports Authority of India Guwahati centre director Subhash Basumatary and deputy directors of sports Pradip Hazarika and Jatin Borchetia gave away the prizes.
