Imphal, Sept. 8: The militant Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) punished two Manipuri students, including a girl, for allegedly conspiring to murder a fellow student in Karnataka’s Mangalore in March. The outfit pumped one bullet each in their legs last night.
A Manipuri student, identified as Laishram Phalguni, 26, was found hanging from a ceiling fan inside his rented room with tell-tale signs of assault on his body.
The KYKL, in a statement today, said the boy was murdered by three Manipuri students with the help of two local accomplices. The conspiracy was hatched by the girl, identified as Soram Nandita, 20, and her lover, Thiyam Jotish, said the statement signed by deputy secretary organisation of the outfit, “lieutenant” M.C. Yaiphabee.
The outfit said the two were shot in the legs last night. They have been admitted to a private hospital here. The victim was Nandita’s distant brother-in-law and local guardian at Mangalore.
Angry residents of the area torched Nandita’s house at Imphal city’s Nagamapal area late last night after word spread about the reason behind her being shot.
Another mob also made an attempt to set fire to Jotish’s house at Uripok, close to the girl’s residence. However, police foiled the attempt.
The KYKL statement said Phalguni often rebuked his sister-in-law for her relationship with her lover as well as her behaviour towards other boys. This infuriated the girl and she conspired with her lover to eliminate her guardian, telling Jotish that Phalguni was sexually abusing her.
Angered by this, Jotish and two of his Manipuri friends who were studying there, as well as two other local boys beat Phalguni to death and then hanged him from the ceiling fan. Both the boy and the girl have confessed to their crime, the KYKL said.
The outfit identified the other two Manipuri accomplices as Naorem Praveen Kumar from Uripok and Nongthonbam Alex, a resident of Khagempali of Imphal West, all studying in Mangalore. The outfit announced that the two would be banished from Manipur and given “capital punishment” wherever the outfit found them.
