Guwahati, Jan. 29: The fact- finding committee of the BJP, which is on a tour to unearth documents of various scams in the Northeast, today alleged that the total amount could be in the range of Rs 50,000 crore.
BJP national secretary Kirit Somaiya today said the share of Assam could be between Rs 15,000 crore and Rs 20,000 crore.
“Embezzlement, misappropriation and fraud in the government system in Assam has become routine,” he said. The party, at its recently concluded national executive in Guwahati, had held an exhibition on Corruption and also came out with a booklet on this theme.
“The amount of scam could be much more if one goes deeper, the figure could be even Rs 70,000 crore,” Somaiya said. He said the report of the committee would be presented to party president Nitin Gadkari on February 11.
“We will not hesitate to go to the Supreme Court to prove the charges,” he added.
The committee, comprising Bijoya Chakravarty and Tapir Gao, besides Somaiya, has visited various parts of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Manipur.
Somaiya said the report would be submitted to President Pratibha Patil. He said in spite of strictures and adverse comments by the comptroller and auditor-general, Congress governments at the Centre and also in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur were not taking action.
Besides the North Cachar Hills scam, the party has also collected documents on irregularities in the public distribution system in Assam. The BJP has demanded a CBI investigation into all the scams.
