Guwahati: Government railway police on Friday late night had recovered nearly 40kg of ganja from Guwahati railway station. GRP sources said the ganja, packed in 22 packets, was found in a toilet of the Dibrugarh-Chandigarh Express.
"We recovered the ganja during our routine operation. It was found in a toilet of general class coach of the train. The carrier stalked those 22 packets in an empty electric box of the toilet and covered it with plyboard. It will worth around Rs 2 lakhs in the market," officer-in-charge of GRP Guwahati railway station Utpal Kumar Das said.
The huge consignment of ganja was recovered while the train stopped on platform 2. The GRP had lodged a case under Section 22 (punishment for contravention in relation to psychotropic substances) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in connection with the seizure, but until now no person has been detained in connection with the case.
GRP sources said railway employees could also be involved. It is not possible to conceal such huge amounts of ganja inside a toilet without the cooperation of railway staff, they alleged.
"We have already made contact with Dibrugarh GRP. Some railway employee may be involved with the case. We have to investigate the matter properly," Mridulananda Sarma, GRP SP of Guwahati said.
