Guwahati, Oct. 3: The Assam Cricket Association (ACA) today named 25 probables for the state Ranji team.
Tinsukia off-spinner Pankaj Tamuli staged a comeback while at least seven new faces, including two Karnataka professionals, feature among those selected.
The ACA has called former Karnataka skipper Jagadeesh Arunkumar and all-rounder Anand Katti along with Vasanth Saravanan of Tamil Nadu as outstation professionals. Last year?s double centurian against Tamil Nadu, R. Satish, has not been called.
Arunkumar is a top order right-hand batsman and part time right-arm off-break bow-ler, while Katti is a middle or-der right-hand batsman and a slow left-arm orthodox bowler.
The coaching-cum-selection trials begin at Nehru Stadium here from October 16.
The selection panel recommended interim coach Sanath Kumar K. to conduct the camp with approval from ACA president Gautam Roy, said ACA secretary Bikash Baruah.
The players will join the nets after completing their respective age group tournament assignments.
The other new faces are middle order batsman Tazindar Singh, wicketkeeper-batsmen Mriganka Jyoti Sarma and Kunal Saikia and medium pacers Abu Naschim Ahmed and Sujay Tarafdar.
Tamuli, who made his Ranji debut in 2003-04, was selected for an impressive performance in the last senior inter-district season.
The selection panel comprises Parimal Bhattacharjee, Naren Sabhapandit and Sushil Uzir.
Assam?s Ranji campaign starts from November 5.
