Jorhat, May 17: Police today arrested two youths from Jorhat district for demanding money from a schoolteacher.

Rangai Kachari and Babu Kachari were arrested from 62 Ghoria gaon at Bekajan under Borholla police station in Titabar sub-division of Jorhat district for reportedly sending an extortion note of Rs 10 lakh under the name of Jungle Warriors Cobra Commandos to a teacher of Bekajan High School.

Jorhat superintendent of police Amanjeet Kaur said an investigation was on to find out whether a new outfit has been formed or the youths were just trying to extort money in the name of a fake organisation.

Kaur said they were verifying from other districts whether the name of the outfit used by the youths has come to their notice or not.

She said the seal and pad used by the duo to send the extortion letter have been seized. She said the police were keeping watch on some youths in adjoining Golaghat district in connection with the case.
