Aanand L. Rai is a busy man. As he takes a break from the shoot of Zero, thanks to Anushka Sharma’s wedding and subsequent honeymoon, he is caught up promoting his production Mukkaabaaz, directed by Anurag Kashyap, due for release in a week. And in between all of that, he and Shah Rukh Khan just revealed a teaser of their film.
And while Zero hit the news and has been trending on social media ever since, cynics have also questioned the idea of allowing a glimpse almost a year before release. While talking about the publicity blitzkrieg, Rai said, “It has taken some more time than a normal story... and hence it was important that we give the audience the title of the film and a glimpse of it. And we thought giving that out would be the perfect way to start the year. Now we will work towards finishing it and release it on December 21.”
The short teaser has given rise to speculation regarding the storyline. The director, however, refused to let out anthing more. “I would not like to talk more about it now. It is a very interesting turn of events on how we came upon this story,” he says. Rai does add, however, that the film takes his directorial career graph a notch higher from where he found himself after the success of Tanu Weds Manu.
Rai is also kicked about co-producing an Anurag Kashyap film. “When he (Anurag) told me about Mukkabaaz I decided this was the perfect opportunity to be associated with him. I believe this is a very important film — a love story in the backdrop of sports politics. No one has dealt with this as realistically as Anurag has.”
