Majidi marvel

The magic of Majid Majidi and his next film, Beyond The Clouds, was celebrated at Matterden cinema in Mumbai recently.
Ahead of the release of his first Hindi language film, cinema lovers in Mumbai were reacquainted with the beautiful world of the Iranian auteur’s cinema; Majidi’s 1998’s Oscar-nominated film, Children of Heaven, was screened at the iconic Matterden theatre. 

Since Beyond The Clouds is releasing on Friday, Majidi has been in India to promote his film. He also engaged in discussion and one-on-one interaction with his Indian fans. The old-world charm came together with the new world vision as the celebrated director showcased the trailer of Beyond The Clouds. 

It was followed by a discussion where world cinema enthusiasts engaged with the legend about his cinematic ideology, his vision for the future, his experience making the Oscar-nominated film and, of course, making his first ever film in India, partnering with producers Namah Pictures and Zee Studios. Making their debuts in the film are Ishaan Khatter and Malavika Mohanan. 

The highlight of the afternoon was the special felicitation of Majidi with the Enlighten Award that celebrates artistes who propel human stories and faith through cinema, something that has always been the core of Majidi’s films. The award was presented to him by none other that Shabana Azmi, a self-confessed Majidi fan.
