The gastronomical trail that is now Purna Das Road has sprouted another food stop, this one boasting of Bengali flavours, an Uttam-Suchitra theme and a Baghajatin connection.
That’s not all. Saptapadi (located next to Tero Parbon) may be a Bengali destination by day, but come evening and partners Ranjan Biswas and Swarup Mondal don their experimental hats to try out Bengali favourites with a twist.
So the humble mocha (banana flower) can be had on a ‘Tex Mex’ bed of nachos, the chicken coin comes with a blend of posto bata (poppy seed paste) and the ever popular fish finger is coated in muri (puffed rice) before frying.
Items on the mains menu get the same treatment. Like the mutton gets a cappuccino sauce or the chicken comes with a green chilli-coconut pesto. In desserts, expect fusions like Ice cream Patishapta.
Spread over 1,200sq ft, Saptapadi can seat 45. Residents of Baghajatin might recognise them from the popular neighbourhood restaurant of the same name. The fusion menu is a new addition to the Purna Das Road outlet and is Biswas and Mondal’s “gift to the food-loving people of this locality”.
