Sambalpur, Jan. 19: A 22-year-old man, who works as a security guard in Tata Refractories at Belpahar, was arrested by Jharsuguda police for killing a Plus Two student of Belpahar College.
The decomposed body of the 16-year-old college girl, who had been missing since January 12, was found on the Ib riverbank at Ghanghora within the limits of Brajarajnagar police station in Jharsuguda district today.
“We have arrested the prime accused, Surya Saura. He has confessed to have killed the girl,” said Jharsuguda deputy superintendent of police Anthony Tirkey.
The deceased’s brother has told the police that they were suspecting the involvement of Surya Saura in this connection.
During investigation, Surya also confessed to the fact that he had an affair with the girl.
“They both had gone to the Ib riverbank last Saturday. There, they fought over some trivial issue and an enraged Surya strangled the girl to death,” said Tirkey.
The accused took the police to the spot where the girl’s body was lying.
The body has been sent for post-mortem and a case has been registered with Belpahar police station. A forensic team also visited the spot to probe into the murder of the college girl.
The deceased belonged to Kanika village of Sundergarh while the accused hailed from Baghmunda village of Jharsuguda.
As she did not return to her village till late in the evening on January 12, her family members had lodged a missing complaint with Hemgir police station.
