Balasore, April 3: Town police arrested two persons in connection with gang rape of a 15-year-old girl on Monday.

The medical examination of the accused, identified as Ganesh Singh, 20, of Nandor village in the Khaira police station limits and Rabindra Singh, 25, of Mangalpur village in the Soro police station limits, have been conducted. They were produced in court today.

The police complaint stated that the accused persons had forcibly taken the victim from her house to a nearby embankment on Monday in absence of her family members and raped her.

The family members of the victim had gone out to attend a community puja.

On their return, when they did not find her in the house, they searched for her and located her near the spot with Ganesh, one of the accused.

Hearing about the incident, the victim’s elder brother lodged a complaint with Khaira police the next day.

Though the accused persons fled from the spot, the police nabbed them on Tuesday night.

During interrogation, it was learnt that Rabindra, a tractor driver, who was Ganesh’s friend, used to come to Nandor village for work. The duo had targeted the victim and was waiting for the right time to assault her.

“Taking the opportunity of her family members’ absence, the accused took her out forcibly from the house and committed the crime near an isolated place on the nearby river embankment,” said Prabhukalyan Acharya, inspector in charge of Khaira police station.

“A case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act has been registered against them. The victim’s medical examination is in progress at Soro community health centre,” he said.
