Bhubaneswar: A number of youngsters from the city are aggressively promoting radio.
A number of radio workshops have been conducted in the past few months that witnessed active participation from youngsters.
The fourth radio fair will be held in February. Youth group Outreach organises the International Radio Fair every year on World Radio Day. This year, it will be held on February 12 and 13 at Bhanja Kala Mandap. Preparations for the event have already begun.
Celebrating radio and World Radio Day and increasing the number of listeners are the objectives of the event. The organisers have a plan to sensitise broadcasters on the importance of radio in public service.
Chief convener of the event Subrat Kumar Pati said: "We are encouraging youngsters to choose radio as a career. The fair is a platform for promotion and exchange of culture."
As part of the event, assistance will also be provided to community radio enthusiasts.
Radio listeners and stations from many parts of the world are taking part in the event. Working radio jockeys, broadcasters and technicians from different stations in India will join in on the celebrations.
Union and state ministers, government officials, station owners, stakeholders will take part in the meetings and share their opinion on the development of the broadcasting industry.
International broadcasters such as Voice of America, China Radio International, NHK World Radio Japan, All India Radio, Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting, Adventist World Radio and Bangladesh Vetaar have confirmed their participation in the event.
The exhibition will include old and new radio sets, old and new radio equipment, DRM, auxiliary studio, sand art on the World Radio Day theme, philately on radio, radio repairing shop, new radio set shop, handmade radio shop and selfie zone. There will be meetings, seminars and cultural programmes. "The audience can see popular radio stars on stage. Selected radio presenters from various channels will host the evenings," said Pati.
Six organisations will be awarded the National Radio Award for excellence in broadcasting.
