Bhubaneswar, Nov. 14: Mahila police have registered a case against the in-laws of a married woman following her complaint of torture. Two youths found the woman lying near Metro Tower at Vani Vihar Square on Saturday evening.
The woman, identified as Sujata Mishra, said last Wednesday when she was returning from Rasulgarh market, one youth suddenly pushed her into a car near the ATM counter. She found her father in-law, brother in-law and sister in-law in the car.
Sujata, who had married Santosh Nayak, an army man, said her in-laws forcibly took her signature on a paper. “They wanted me to compromise in some cases I had lodged earlier. They took my signature for that purpose,” said Sujata, who hailed from Keunjhar district.
She said her in-laws tortured her in the car and threw her near Metro Tower. “My brother in-law attacked me with a knife. I sustained injuries on several parts of my body. Then they threw me out of the vehicle,” said the woman, adding that earlier on two occasions, her in-laws had tried to kill her.
The two youths, who found Sujata lying near Metro Tower, informed Sahid Nagar police who rushed her to a nearby hospital. Later, the police brought her to Mahila police station.
Sujata, who had married September last year to Nayak, a resident of Jajpur district, said her husband had filed a divorce case six months ago and the case was going on.
She also alleged that in May, they had set her afire, in which she sustained injuries.
