Sambalpur, July 15: A 23-year-old married woman allegedly killed her two daughters over family dispute at Bamra within Gobindapur police limits today.

The accused, identified as Baijayanti Mahali, is the wife of a junior engineer of Bamra block, Durga Charan Mahali.

Police said Baijayanti drowned her two daughters - one aged four and the other two months - in the water tank of the government quarters at Bamra.

Baijayanti had attempted suicide on the railway tracks in Bamra after drowning her children. However, some people who were nearby stopped her and informed the police. During investigation, the police came to know that Baijayanti had killed her daughters.

"Baijayanti confessed that she had killed her children. Preliminary investigation reveals that family dispute is the reason behind the act. The bodies of the children have been recovered," said inspector in charge of Gobindpur police station Dheeraj Chopdar.
