Cuttack, March 9: Orissa High Court today reserved judgment on the validity of criminal proceedings initiated for the alleged involvement in terror activities against Subhashree Panda alias Mili Panda, wife of most wanted Maoist leader Sabyasachi Panda.

The single judge bench of Justice Indrajit Mohanty closed hearing on the case following arguments of Subhashree’s counsel Manoj Mishra seeking quashing of the entire proceedings initiated against her and state counsel Debashis Panda opposing it.

The high court had earlier issued an interim stay order on the criminal proceedings arising out of framing of charges against Subhashree in fast track court of the adhoc additional district sessions judge, Khurda. At present, she is lodged at the Jharpada jail in Bhubaneswar.

The 40-year-old woman, suspected to have been coordinating Maoist activities not only in Orissa, but also in neighbouring states, was arrested from a rented house on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar on January 14, 2010.

Material evidence in form of jungle shoes, diary, unaccounted cash to the tune of lakhs, mobile phones, vehicles, laptop, CDs, DVDs, walkie-talkies and huge quantity of naxal-related literature against police and state government were seized from her possession during the raid, the case records stated.

Moreover, it was accused that Subhashree had been enrolled as a permanent member of the party CPI (Maoist) and in-charge of the publicity division.

Police had slapped cases against her accusing her of being a member of the terrorist organisation indulging in conspiracy, terror activities and amassing of funds for terror activities.

The court of the adhoc additional district sessions judge, Khurda had taken cognisance of it observing that “there are sufficient materials to frame charge against the accused”.
