Bhubaneswar: Preparations have begun for the platinum year celebrations of Utkal University, the 17th oldest university in the country.
The varsity was established on November 27, 1943.
A preparatory meeting for the purpose was held at the varsity auditorium on Tuesday where various stakeholders suggested how the occasion could be celebrated.
A mobile number, 6370844367, was launched where people associated with the varsity could share ideas on how to celebrate the year. This apart, students can also suggest changes for betterment of the varsity. The platinum jubilee logo of the varsity was also launched.
"This is an extremely proud occasion for all of us. The institute has been instrumental in enhancing the educational scenario of the state. This is the time to celebrate its achievements and we are lucky to be a part of it," he said.
"We at Utkal University must never forget the varsity's role in nation-building. I earnestly appeal to all my colleagues and students to cooperate and complement each other in our march towards excellence," said the vice chancellor of the varsity, S.M. Pattanaik. "Our priorities will be faculty development, putting in place a state-of-the-art knowledge-delivery system, fostering excellence in research and innovation, create a responsive as well as technology enabled administration, infrastructure development, campus security and engagement with the societal needs in Odisha."
There are plans to release a one-hour documentary on the university's achievements and its glory. A number of seminars, workshops and events would be held throughout the year to mark the celebrations.
