Balasore: Railway police have arrested a 25-year-old man on charge of black marketing tickets.
They also seized as many as 19 railway reserved tickets worth around Rs 83,000 and Rs 3,000 cash from his possession.
The accused, Krishnakant Das, a resident of Nilada village in the Mohanpur police station jurisdictions of Midnapore district in Bengal, was produced in court after being booked under section 143 of the Railway Act, said the police.
Balasore railway protection force inspector-in-charge Ravi Prakash Jaiswal said the accused was under surveillance following complaints that he had been resorting to the illegal means of booking tickets and further selling them at exorbitant rates to the passengers. A special team formed jointly by the Kharagpur and Balasore railway protection force police nabbed him.
The accused used to come to Balasore station to book tickets to different destination in different names.
"Ticket booking by third person in bulk and black marketing them are punishable offence under section 143 of the act," said Jaiswal.
"He was caught with the tickets while his associates managed to flee. The others involved in the case will be brought to book."
