Cuttack, Aug. 24: The condition of a minor girl, whom a criminal had allegedly raped and slit her throat at Khandapada of Nayagarh district on August 20, is now stable, doctors at SCB hospital here said today.
Yesterday, the 16-year-old girl underwent a surgery at the hospital. On August 20, she had been admitted to a hospital in Nayagarh, but later, shifted to SCB the same day in a critical condition.
“The girl’s trachea was severely affected, but her condition is stable after the surgery,” said SCB superintendent Shyama Kanungo.
The girl has been kept under observation at the ENT department. Though initially the family had purchased some emergency drugs, they are likely to be reimbursed for the same, Kanungo said.
The victim had been found lying unconscious some 2km from her house at Kandhamiringi village in Khandapada police limits.
“My daughter had gone to a nearby pond around 8am and did not return home till 11am. We found her at an isolated place near a field. She was unable to speak as her throat had been slit,” said the victim’s mother.
Though the family members alleged that the girl was raped, the charge of sexual assault is yet to be proved. Her family members also alleged that initially the officials at the local police outpost had refused to register their complaint.
“The cops at the outpost misbehaved with my father. Later, we lodged a complaint at Khandapada police station,” said victim’s brother Akshay.
Nayagarh superintendent of police Bhagyadhar Behera denied the rape charge.
