Balasore, Jan. 1:An inter college multi-lingualtheatre fest hosted by a literary organisation,in association with the Fakir Mohan University, is drawing a lot of crowd here.
Last evening, a play titled Sabdhanwas staged by students fromthe Iram Smruti Mahavidyalaya in Bhadrak. The play portrays the story of an innocent village boy, who spoils his life after coming in contact with urban lifestyle during the course of his education. Bad company drags him to the world of drugs that eventually dashes his aspirations and the hopes of his parents.
The multi-lingual theatre fest is in its ninthedition. Twenty colleges are taking part in the festival that is being hosted by literary organisation Chandrabhaga, which is celebrating its silver jubilee.
'We have been organising the inter-college multi-lingual theatre contest in association with the Fakir Mohan University sincethepast eight years. This year, we are organising it in a grand way since our organisation is celebrating its silver jubilee. Apart from the stage shows and seminars, workshops are also being held during the festival,' said Chandrabhaga secretary Sridev.
'Since the past 24 years, we have been holding our ChandrabhagaMahatsov. Eminent literary personalities from across the state are busy taking part in the seminars and workshopsduringthe festival days,' Sridev said.
Troupes from various colleges are staging their acts every evening.Stage plays in various languages such as Hindi, Sanskrit, English, Kosali and Santhali are a massive hit.
The festival will conclude on January 6.
'On the final day, prizes will be distributed,' said Prahlad Mohanty, a key member of the organisation.
The Chandrabhaga fest that began on December 28 is also staging a book fair.
'About 30 publishing houseshave come to the book fairand45 stallsare exhibiting books,' Prahlad said.
Rajesh Nayak, a student participant, said: 'Wefeel privileged to bepart of this theatre festival when the host organisation Chandrabhaga is celebrating its silver jubilee. Weput in our best while staging our play.'
Sitansu Lenka, an avid lover of theatre, said: 'I have been a regular visitor to thetheatre festival each year and it is a great learning experience. I am already looking forward to the festival next year.'
