Bhubaneswar, March 3: Students of a junior college in Boudh district today went on a rampage in the institute, because they could not take the Plus Two test as their admit cards had not yet arrived.

But, the Council of Higher Secondary Education claimed that they had tagged 210 students of Lopamudra Junior College to the Karlamunda centre, where these students appeared for their examinations today.

On one hand, the students said they had taken admission in this college, while on the other, deputy secretary of the council Mamata Panda said: "Those students, who ransacked the college, did not take admission. We have no information on these students. So, the council has no role in this matter."

Moreover, the angry students claimed that they had even filled up the forms and paid the examination fees to the college authorities, while the deputy secretary said the college should bear the responsibility of whatever had happened today.

The students held the college authorities responsible for their plight, whereas the authorities, even after repeated attempts, could not be contacted for their comments.

The angry students went on a rampage, setting fire to furniture and damaging computers and other property, including important documents.

Over 100 students, who claimed that they had taken admission in Plus Two arts in Lopamudra Junior College at Manamunda under Kantamal block today staged protests after getting to know that their admit cards had not yet arrived. As they were not allowed to take the test, they ransacked the college.

Police officials, who rushed to the spot, said the students had also damaged the college building's asbestos roof. They set ablaze the computers, paper documents and other articles, including the furniture. Later, they blocked the national highway passing nearby.

A little later, when the police arrived in strength, the agitators dispersed.

Inspector in charge of Manamunda police station Bhabanand Pradhan said the students complained that they had paid money to take admission in the college in the correspondence course.

"Though their examination started today, they got to know that they had not got their admit cards yet. They then ransacked the college and set afire many things. When we rushed to the spot, they fled immediately. We are looking into the matter and have deployed the police at the college," said Pradhan.

He said the police had not yet received any complaints from any side, but would take steps if both parties lodged complaints. "We are having discussions with the college authorities to know about the matter. We are also keeping tabs on the situation," said a police officer.
