The Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences organised a mega guardians' meet on December 29. More than 1 lakh tribal people, including 60,000 parents and guardians of KISS students, 27,000 other students and 10,000 alumni attended the meet. Speaking on the occasion, founder Achyuta Samanta told parents that only education could ensure a dignified life of children.
Traffic volunteers
The Brahmapur traffic police have engaged 100 students of various colleges to control traffic in the town from the new year. The volunteers have been engaged under the Traffic Volunteers Scholarship Scheme for six months and each of them would be given a daily scholarship amount of Rs 100. The students will assist police personnel in regulating traffic for three hours during their leisure time and after every six months a new batch would be selected.
Tech event
The Trident Academy of Technology, Bhubaneswar, conducted two faculty development programmes titled "Embedded systems in IoT" and "Role of Data Science in IoT domain". The event was attended by 52 academics teaching multidisciplinary streams at various colleges and institutions of repute across the country.
Success stories
Twelve students of the KIIT School of Law have cleared Odisha Judicial Services Examination 2017 conducted by the Odisha Public Service Commission. Two of them -Sabyasachi Panda and Paras Padhi - have secured the 5th and 8th rank, respectively. Other successful students are: Soumya Sonalika, Ankita Guru, Mohammed Saha Faisal, Rajashree Aryabala Tripathy, Siddhant Mishra, Suhani Patnaik, Jyotirmayee Sarangi, Samikshya Mohanty, Zarine Khan and Priyadarshini Kumbhar.
Book fair
The Biju Patnaik Central Library of NIT, Rourkela, will organise a three-day annual book fair at the NCC Ground here from January 4. More than 30 publishers and vendors from across the country will display their books on different subjects such as engineering, science, humanities and social sciences, planning and architecture, earth and atmospheric sciences and management. Students of the institute are co-ordinating the three-day event.
Annual meet
The University Teachers' Association of the Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology recently organised its 42nd annual general body meeting. Vice-chancellor of varsity Surendranath Pasupalak came up with five demands for the consideration of the government. Minister Pradeep Maharathy, who was the chief guest of the meeting, assured to fulfil the demands within two months. The demands, included early implementation of the career advancement scheme, enhancement of teachers' superannuation age to 65 years in the light of UGC recommendation to harness the expertise of senior teachers.
Heritage walk
A group of management students from the Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar, joined the 4th heritage walk at Udayagiri and Khandagiri hills titled "Monks, Caves and Kings" under the Ekamra Walks programme recently. The team included Prasad Khole, Sashwatha S, Deepayan Pattnaik, Purvi Mehta and Prashant Sharma.
