Rourkela, June 13: The drugs control administration, along with city police, are conducting raids on medical stores and drug houses in the steel city to check irregularities in selling sedatives and other drugs that can be used by youths as intoxicants.

Drugs inspector Gyanada Subhadarishini Nanda said that such raids were going on by a joint team of the police, excise and drugs control officials in the city.

“We normally conduct check for illegal selling of drugs, particularly those used for intoxication. Besides, we check retail and stock points and storerooms for these drugs. Along with the stock and sale records, we check their licence and pharmacists’ details. We also see whether the shopkeepers are selling medicines without prescription,” said Nanda.

Officials said that though the drugs control department did not receive any complaint of misuse of such medicines, the police, however, had received several complaints regarding substance abuse. Thus, the joint raid was going on following instruction from the superintendent of police.

However, the drugs control authorities have not yet found much discrepancy.
