Malkangiri: Maoists have objected to construction of roads in Malkangiri district alleging that the government is constructing roads in the district aiming to destroy the people's movement.
This the Maoists have alleged by putting posters at several places in Mathili police limits on Tuesday.
"In the name of development, the government is constructing roads to weaken the people's movement. We don't need pucca roads as it will facilitate the movement of forces into the interior areas. If roads bring development why areas already connected with roads are not developed," reads a Maoist poster put up at Lulel village. Also, the posters, put up by the Malkangiri-Koraput-Vishakapatnam Border Divisional Committee, have threatened the contractors concerned of dire consequences if the road works are not stopped immediately.
"The contractors are doing anti-people work. If the works are not stopped immediately, they will be punished at the kangaroo court of the Maoists," reads the poster.
Apart from Lulel, the Maoist posters were spotted at Purunagumma, Kartanpalli, Lakaguda, Anlaguda, Machaguda and Baragaon. Through the posters, the Maoists have warned villagers of dire consequences if they work as police informers. "We appeal all not to share any information to police against us. If anyone dare to deviate from the diktat, he will be punished," reads the poster.
"Combing operations have been intensified ," said Mathili police station inspector-in-charge John Kujuru.
