Cuttack, Aug. 6: Vigilance sleuths conducting raids in Bhawanipatna, Bhubaneswar, Balangir, Baragarh and Cuttack since yesterday have come across assets worth more than Rs 4 crore in the possession of a divisional forest officer and a civil supply officer.
The raids were conducted following allegations of disproportionate assets and after the special vigilance judge courts issued search warrants to the officials concerned. However, the disproportionate assets in both the cases have not been worked out so far, official sources said.
In the raids yesterday, documents related to assets worth Rs 2.85 crore was recovered from Lalitendu Jena, DFO (north), Bhawanipatna, in Kalahandi district.
"Deposits of Rs 1.32 crore in different banks and Life Insurance Corporation were traced by the vigilance team which raided his residential and official premises in Bhubaneswar and Bhawanipatna," said Manoranjan Panda, police superintendence, vigilance (co-ordination).
The team also raided Jena's home at Gajapatinagar (Bhubaneswar), paternal house at Rajabagicha (Cuttack) and father-in-law's house at Rasulgarh (Bhubaneswar).
Documents related to one triple storey building at Gajapatinagar in Bhubaneswar worth around Rs 92 lakh and a plot at Samantarapur (Bhubaneswar) worth around Rs 7 lakh were seized during the raid. Gold ornaments worth around Rs 14.80 lakh, household articles worth around Rs 6.25 lakh, one Hyundai Santro car worth Rs 5 lakh and cash of Rs 1.43 lakh were among the movable properties detected by the vigilance sleuths.
In another raid yesterday, assets worth around Rs 1.41 crore was found at the residential and official premises of Ranjan Seth at Balangir town where he is posted as civil supply officer.
Raids were also conducted at his residential flats at Bargarh town and Bhubaneswar and deposits of Rs 24.43 lakh in different banks and Life Insurance Corporation were traced.
Documents of a triple storey building at Ainthapalli in Sambalpur town worth Rs 26 lakh, a three-bedroom flat at Andhilo in Bhubaneswar worth Rs 26.97 lakh, six plots at Bargarh town and Sambalpur town worth around Rs 45.98 lakh, household articles worth around Rs 5.77 lakh along with Rs 1.19 lakh in cash and gold ornaments worth Rs 1.30 lakh were also found, SP Panda said in a statement.
In another development, the vigilance sleuths laid a trap and caught Hrushikesh Sahu, joint manager (finance), Odisha Small Industries Corporation, Cuttack, red handed on Friday while he was allegedly demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 1,500 from a record keeper in his office.
