Bhubaneswar, April 11: Police commissioner Y.B. Khurania today ordered a probe into the development in which, the Mahila police station inspector in charge had allegedly visited the house of Pankaj Mahakud, son of Independent MLA (Champua) Sanatan Mahakud, in a harassment case.
On March 18, the police had served a notice on Pankaj to appear before it on the basis of a complaint filed by Kavita Mahakud, who claims to be his wife. Kavita alleged harassment by the MLA over her marriage with Pankaj, whom the police had asked to appear before it within two weeks to record his statement. However, he did not oblige.
“We will conduct an inquiry to find out the purpose of the police visit to Keonjhar,” said Khurania.
On the other hand, the Mahila police station inspector in charge visited Pankaj’s house at Champua on April 8 to record his statement.
Sanatan had contested the 2009 elections on a Congress ticket but quit the party and fought the 2014 general elections independently. Mahakud hogged the limelight after he had declared assets worth Rs 69 crore in his affidavit in 2014 general elections making him the second richest person to contest the Assembly polls.
Earlier, Mahila police station had registered a case against Sanatan and his son-in-law, Dinabandhu, on the basis of Kavita complaint.
The woman alleged that she had been subjected to mental and physical torture besides being intimidated by the MLA and his relatives. Kavita said Pankaj had a love marriage with her in March 2014.
“He married me according to the Hindu traditions, and since then we have been staying together. He is the father of my daughter. However, in September last year, Pankaj left our home with one of his relatives and did not return,” Kavita had said.
Santan and Dinabandhu denied the allegations.
