Cuttack, Aug. 17: The Odisha State Child Rights Protection Commission (OSCRPC) was constituted nearly two years ago, but it has no members.

The government has only appointed a chairperson for the commission.

Responding to a PIL, Orissa High Court has issued notices to the commissioner-cum-secretary, women and child welfare department, and principal secretary, law department, to file responses within two weeks.

Human rights activist, advocate Prabir Kumar Das had filed a PIL seeking direction of Orissa High Court for formation of a full-fledged commission.

The division bench, consisting of Chief Justice V. Gopal Gowda and Justice S.K. Mishra, before which the PIL came up for admission on Thursday, posted the matter for hearing along with the state government’s clarification, after two weeks.

The petition has also sought direction to the state government to set up a children’s court as prescribed in the Commission for Protection of Child Rights Act, 2005, in pursuance of which the commission was constituted.

The Commission for Protection of Child Rights Act, 2005, prescribes six members apart from the chairman.
