Bhubaneswar, May 24: Odia film producer and promoter Jitendra Mishra will represent National Award winning films from India at the upcoming 70th Cannes International Film Festival in France.
The films will be presented at the Marché du Film at Cannes, said to be one of the largest film markets of the world.
It is also the annual meeting place for film industry professionals, including distributors, producers, filmmakers and sales companies, from around the world.
Mishra plans to spread the spirit of Indian cinema among the international audience. Fifty films will be presented at the event.
Some of them are We Make Images, which is an animated interpretation of a creation myth from the Bhil community in Madhya Pradesh, for whom communal painting is equivalent to offering prayers.
Another film is Leela in Kheriya which is a documentary based on the Ramlila tradition in an Indian village called Kheriya.
Mishra also plans to facilitate Odia films at the international market that includes 'In the shadow of time', a feature length documentary film that explores the journey of 'Ravana Chhaya' over the last 40 years.
Mishra has been a member of the Cannes Producers Network, which simulates networking and gives filmmakers an opportunity to meet their potential partners to carry forward their projects.
"Recently, we have been working on various innovative ideas to help these films reach the global audience and taking these films to Cannes Film Festival is a part of such efforts," said Mishra, who hails from Titilagarh.
He has also been associated with films such as I am Kalam, Aaasma and Chausar.
"We have many great stories and filmmakers making world-class films with potential in commercial viability as well, but we have hardly any exploitation avenues for these kind of low-budget independent films here and that is the reason we are trying to develop an alternative method of promotion and distribution on global platforms," said Mishra.
