Bhubaneswar, Dec. 3: Students of Utkal University today celebrated the grant of A+ grade to the varsity by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (Naac) after a gap of 11 years with drum beats and colourful fireworks.
The Naac accreditation results were out last night.

Many students took to the social media to express their happiness. Student leader Tanmay Swain said: “We wish to congratulate all stakeholders. These grades will bring more prestige to the university and to the students as well.” A jubilant professor Santosh Tripathy, said: “Finally, our hard work has paid off. We thank every one who supported us.”
The Naac accreditation for Utkal University had expired in 2009. None of the universities in the state, except North Odisha University, had Naac accreditation until last year.

The Naac ratings would now help the universities avail funds under development grants of the UGC.

At least 30 educational institutions, including National Institute of Technology, Rourkela, Utkal University, BJB Autonomous College and Rajdhani College, received the Naac accreditation last night.

Utkal University topped the chart in the state by getting A+ grade with a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 3.53. National Institute of Technology, Rourkela, has bagged A grade with 3.12 CGPA and BJB Autonomous College got A grade with 3.19 CGPA. Rajdhani College has received A grade with 3.01 CGPA.

Varsity posts

The state higher education department has created four vital posts of vice-chancellor, registrar, comptroller of examination and comptroller of finance for the new Gangadhar Meher University.

Deputy registrar of the varsity U.C. Pati said: “The post of registrar will be filled up from the cadre of senior Odisha Administrative Service officers, while the post of comptroller of finance will be manned by a senior officer from the Odisha Finance Service cadre.

The comptroller of examination will be selected from among readers of the university or by way of deputation from among the Odisha Education Service cadre. The vice-chancellor will be selected directly.” The Gangadhar Meher Autonomous College was accorded university status on May 30 last year.
