Baripada: Police have arrested a 20-year-old man on the charge of raping a 13-year-old girl.
The accused, identified as Sunaram Tudu, is a resident of Saleibeda village. He was forwarded to court on Thursday after medical examination, the police said.
The accused had allegedly committed the crime on Monday when she had gone to nearby jungle to graze cattle. He had alleged gagged her and raped her.
The girl is a Class VIII student of a school in the neighbouring Keonjhar district. She stays at a school hostel and had come home for the summer vacation.
The girl's father lodged a complaint with the local police on Tuesday after she told them what had happened.
Officer in charge of Thakurmunda police station Dhiraj Kumar Das said a case had been registered.
"The medical examinations of both the girl and the accused were carried out. Tudu was forwarded to the court after completion of tests," said the police officer.
Girl rescued
Police arrested a 24-year-old man after rescuing a minor girl from him.
The cops carried out a raid at his resident in Delhi to find the girl.
The accused, identified as Sanjay Sahu, is native of Barunah in Jajpur district. He had allegedly kidnapped the girl from Bhadrak bus stand on May 20. The father of the girl had lodged a complaint with the police.
