Berhampur: The Government Railway Police (GRP) here on Saturday seized the body of a woman, identified as Sujata Nayak, 27, and detained her husband Krushna Chandra Nayak, 32, as she allegedly died under suspicious condition on the Ahmedabad-Puri Express.

"We have registered an unnatural death case at GRP police station," said GRP police station inspector-in-charge Sukanta Bhoi. "We are waiting the post-mortem report," he said.

Krushna is a native of Bhangarada in Gangapur police limits of Ganjam district and works in the quality control section of a cotton mill at Ankaleswar near Surat in Gujurat. He said his wife had been ill since past three months and suffering from fever, vomiting and head reeling. "I, Sujata, our two-year-old son Kousik, my father-in-law Ramesh Sahu of Sana Tulasipalli and his younger brother Kalia Sahu were returning home by the Ahmedabad-Puri Express when my ailing wife died. I do not know why the GRP is not allowing me to go to my village with the body of my wife," he said.

"The GRP inspector-in-charge also contacted my father-in-law, who had left for his village, over phone. He has also clarified that there is no foul play in the death of Sujata," said Krushna.

Krushna had married four years ago. He, along with his wife and son, were staying at Ankaleswar.

"I informed my father-in-law over phone to come to Ankaleswar. He came to my house and had stayed with us for six days. They advised me to take my wife to Ganjam for treatment, and we boarded the train on the night of June 28. Sujata refused taking lunch on Friday as her health condition was not good. When I offered her dinner, she didn't respond to my call. When the train reached Berhampur railway station at 5.30am on Saturday, my father-in-law arranged one van to take Sujata and Kaushik to Sana Tulasipalli. To this, I opposed. I wanted to take both of them to my native village. But my father-in-law managed to took my son with them to their village after war of words for a few minutes with me. The body of Sujata was lying near the parcel office here, and I was sitting nearby when the GRP personnel came and detained me," said Krushna.
