Sambalpur, Oct. 29: Members of Sambalpur Bar Association today blocked the main road and gheraoed the chairperson of the municipality demanding repair of roads in the city.
“All the roads in Sambalpur municipality are in a bad condition. The municipality has been apathetic to this problem. The road from Sambalpur Road railway station to GM College Chhak is in a bad shape even though it is an important road of the city. The students of Gangadhar Meher College take this road to go to college. But the municipal authorities have never thought of repairing the road,” said president of Sambalpur Bar Association Pramod Rath.
“The road from GM College Chhak to Modipara Chhak is full of potholes. The district headquarters hospital falls on this road. Hundreds of patients ply the road. But the municipality has not attempted to repair this road. Similarly, the road from Modipara Chhak to Samaleswari Temple and the road from Modipara Chhak to Khetrajpur railway station are also in a damaged state. These are the important roads of the city. The municipality should maintain the roads. The negligence of the civic authority has forced us to resort to road blockade,” he added.
“The repair work will begin within 15 days. The tender process for the work has been completed,” said the chairperson of Sambalpur Municipality, Reena Trivedi.
