Bhubaneswar, Jan. 30: The youth wing of Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) today decided to postpone its garjan samavesh (roar rally) scheduled on February 2. Instead, it will organise a youth convention on a smaller scale at a ground near AG Square.
Earlier, the youth unit had announced to hold the rally on January 18 but it was postponed to February 2.
President of the youth wing of OPCC Rajat Choudhury said: "As the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee is planning to hold a convention on February 2 to commemorate the 10th year of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, the flagship programme of the UPA government, we have decided to put on hold the garjan samavesh for the time being."
"Instead, we will organise a youth convention and announce a fresh date for the samavesh on the same day," he said.
Sources said the youth wing was forced to postpone its rally following pressure from the All-India Congress Committee that had received complaint from the state unit.
PCC president Prasad Harichandan has so far remained tight-lipped on the issue. Sources said Harichandan was annoyed with the rally because he was not taken into confidence.
