Sambalpur, July 24: Chief Justice of high court, V. Gopala Gowda today laid the foundation stone of a multi-faceted alternative dispute resolution centre in the city. He also inaugurated the permanent lok adalat on the district judge court premises.
Addressing the lawyers on this occasion, the chief justice stressed on the need for continuous learning. He even stressed on the need of more study on cyber crime and intellectual property rights. “This is an era of super specialty. And the lawyers will have to be trained to gain professional expertise,” said Gowda. “Continuous learning is required for achieving perfection,” he said.
Stressing on the economic independence of every individual, Gowda said that every individual had right on the water, forest and land. The lawyers have an important role in protecting the rights and in the development of the society. He advised young lawyers and judicial magistrates to learn legal information from their seniors.
President of Sambalpur Bar Association Pramod Rath presided over the meeting. High court judges Justice M.M. Das and Justice B.P. Das addressed the lawyers.
Members of Sambalpur Bar Association expressed happiness over the inauguration of a permanent lok adalat in the city. “The disputes related to public utility such as drinking water, electricity, telephone service, sanitation can be resolved in the lok adalat,” said Pushparani Mohapatra, a member of Sambalpur Bar Association.
The lok adalat will be headed by a judicial officer of the district judge level. In addition, two other members would be there in the permanent lok adalat.
Yesterday, the chief justice had inaugurated the district and sessions judge court at Bargarh. This was a longstanding demand of the people of Bargarh since it was carved out from greater Sambalpur district in early nineties.
