
Rayagada: The flood situation in the district witnessed improvement with the amount of rainfall decreasing significantly on Monday.
The district recorded 104.4mm of rainfall till 8am on Monday against 493.8mm and 949mm of rainfall on Sunday and Saturday, respectively.
The water level of Vansadhara river in Gunupur, where it was flowing at 83 meters on Saturday and Sunday night, dropped to 82.03 meters on Monday.
The floodwaters of Nagabali and Jhanjabati rivers have also started to recede on Monday. "At present, there is no flood fear in the district. Road communication was hit at a few areas, but it has been restored," said Rayagada district collector Guha Poonam Tapas Kumar.
"However, our officials are on high alert to face any eventuality. Medicines in adequate number have been stocked at hospitals to treat villagers suffering from water-borne diseases," she said.
Flood-hit villagers have been informed about the precautionary measures they need to adopt, she said.
Earlier, on Sunday night the administration was forced to evacuate at least 112 villagers of Jagannathpur as floodwaters had inundated their houses.
"The villagers have been kept at the primary school of the village and they are being provided with free cooked food twice a day. They will be kept at the relief centre till Tuesday. If the weather improves, they will be sent to their respective homes," said district emergency officer, Rayagada, Babita Rani Dalbehera.
"All rain affected roads in the district are being repaired on a war footing and the field officials concerned urged to submit the house damage report at the earliest," she said.
The district has recorded three flood related deaths, including a two-year old child, since Saturday.
