Awareness event
Schoolchildren took part in a two-day career exhibition organised by the Regional Institute of Education at Stewart School, Bhubaneswar, on August 30 and 31 to create awareness about emerging career opportunities and possibilities.
The students presented talks on various career opportunities, including medical sciences, forensic science, journalism, aviation, animation, ayurveda, psychiatry, biotechnology, beauty care, fashion designing and yoga. Experts from various fields interacted with the students.
Quit India quiz
Demonstration Multipurpose School, Bhubaneswar, held a panel discussion on the 75th anniversary of Quit India Movement.
The programme was inaugurated by the headmaster with students of Classes X and XI as panellists. Students put forward their questions on the Quit India Movement and the panellists replied to them. An open quiz on the movement was held on the occasion and it was conducted by another student, Kaustuv Ray.
The programme ended with a pledge by the students to protect the nation.
Tinkering lab
An Atal Tinkering Laboratory was inaugurated at DAV Public School, Chandrasekharpur, to encourage innovation among students. The students will get a chance to work with tools and equipment to understand the concepts of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The lab will have do-it-yourself kits and equipment on science, electronics, robotics, open-source micro controller boards, sensors, 3D printers and computers. Other facilities include meeting rooms and videoconferencing facility.
The lab has been set up under the Centre's Atal Innovation Mission where they propose to establish 500 such laboratories in schools across the country to create scientific temper among students. Students from nearby schools can also utilise the services for their innovative research.
Sports day
DAV Public School, Kalinga Nagar, celebrated National Sports Day on the birthday of legendary hockey player Dhyan Chand with the aim to promote healthy living and a sporting culture. A mini-marathon was held on the occasion in which more than 300 students took part. A number of sportspersons from the state spoke to the students on the importance of games and sports.
CM honours student
Chief minister Naveen Patnaik felicitated Eeshanee Tripathy, a Class XII student of Delhi Public School, Rourkela, for wining Nasa's space settlement design contest. She is the only student from India to take part in the International Space Development Conference organised by Nasa and the National Space Society in St Louis, USA.
Naveen had earlier directed Odisha Mining Corporation to extend financial support to Eeshanee for taking part in the contest. He congratulated her and wished her success.
Eat healthy
Students of DAV Public School, Pokhariput, on September 5, kicked off World Nutrition Week with various activities lined up to inculcate healthy eating habits among students. They will be taught to make healthy recipes at home and also asked to stay away from junk foods during interactive sessions with nutritionists.
Go tech
Tata Consultancy Services will host the Bhubaneswar edition of the TCS IT Wiz for students of Classes VIII-XII on September 19 in Bhubaneswar. The event will be held in 12 locations across India and the top six teams from the written preliminary round will qualify for the regional finals.
The winning team from the regional finals will compete in the national finals to be held in Mumbai in December.
Children's views
Centre for Child and Women Development, a Bhubaneswar-based voluntary organisation, in collaboration with National Foundation for India, organised a day-long event in Bhubaneswar to explore the aspirations and views of children.
More than 60 participants attended the programme. Children from slums shared their problems, which included inadequate drain covers, street lights, quality education and health care facilities.
