Cuttack, Dec. 7: The Government Railway Police (GRP) today recovered the personal diary of Jyotirmayi Kutruka, a student of Ravenshaw University whose body was found near Kathajodi railway bridge last Thursday.

“A personal diary has been recovered from her hostel room. In it, the deceased had said sorry to her family members and asked them to forgive her for the act,” said GRP inspector in charge Smruti Ranjan Kar.

The diary was found inside her room at Devi Hostel. However, the police said the exact reason behind the apparent suicide was yet to be ascertained. “It is now clear that Jyotirmayi had committed suicide by jumping from a running train,” said a police officer. She has not blamed anyone in her suicide note,” he said.

The body of Jyotirmayi, a first-year arts student, was recovered from Kathajodi railway bridge on Thursday night. Her family members had earlier alleged that she had been killed.

The police are now trying to ascertain the exact reason behind the incident because the deceased had called her family up and informed that she could not attend a six-mark question in the semester examination.

The cops had recovered rat killer poison from the college bag of Jyotirmayi, still, her family members insisted that she had been killed.

“Jyotirmayi wanted to study economics honours and took admission at Ravenshaw University after passing her Plus Two examination from Ramadevi College. She had secured 98 per cent marks in the matriculation examination and was determined to pursue higher education at Ravenshaw,” said Angad Kutruka, the deceased’s father.

The police said that Jyotirmayi, who hailed from Rayagada district, had left the hostel around 4pm on Thursday and boarded a passenger train to Bhubaneswar around 5pm from Cuttack railway station. Jyotirmayi left the Ravenshaw University campus after taking the philosophy examination. Her body was found later that day.
