Bhubaneswar, Aug. 17: Plus Two colleges across the state have been left with around 95,000 seats in 1,333 junior colleges, after the first phase of admissions got over.

Out of the total 3,13,224 seats, 42,797 seats in arts 37,740 in science and 14,034 in commerce are lying vacant. At the premier BJB College, 98 seats in arts, 77 in science and 38 in commerce are lying vacant.

Ravenshaw College has been left with 113 vacant arts seats, 47 science and 49 commerce seats. The Rama Devi Women’s (Junior) College has been left with 76 seats in arts, 51 in science, 52 in commerce and the Basic Science and Humanities College has been left with 108 seats in science.

Since the authorities have decided not to hold second selection, chances of these seats being filled up are slim. The SC/ST extension seat selection list was published on Thursday and admissions will be held tomorrow (Saturday). Spot admissions for balance seats will be held on August 25 and classes for these students will begin on August 27.

Despite extending the admission dates at degree colleges, the vacant seat scenario showed little difference. The latest available figures show that degree colleges are left with around 14,576 seats in arts, 3,391 seats in physical science, 3,347 seats in biological science and 4,225 seats in commerce and 461 seats in self-financed courses. Earlier this month, the department of higher education had brought out a notification asking students who could not apply for Plus Three during the normal e-admission process to re-apply.

The notification said those who failed to secure a seat during normal admissions or had passed the instant examination conducted by the Council of Higher Secondary Education could also apply.
