
Sambalpur: A cultural troupe from the town will perform Sambalpuri dance in England with accompaniment of dhol and nishan. The cultural troupe, Ukia, has been selected to take part in the 39th convention of Odia Society of United Kingdom to be held on August 25 and 26 in Manchester. Odia people living in various parts of England will take part in the convention.
The Union foreign affairs ministry has approved the tour of the Sambalpuri cultural group on the basis of approval given by the Indian high commission in London. The 12-member team will leave for London on August 17. Dancer Ranjan Sahu from Ukia said the artistes would perform at various places in England during their stay.
Dalkhai and Rasarkeli will be performed there during the event. Preparations are on for the show for the past one month, Sahu said. "I am sure we will enthralled the audience through our performances and with our colourful Sambalpuri attire." During their convention, Odia Society of United Kingdom will organize seminars, discussions on culture and tradition.
They will also organise literary competitions. Odia food will be served during the convention. The society will also organise traditional Odia attire show for the participants. The society's organizing joint secretary, Sandip Nayak , said special competition would be organized on traditional food-making.
