Police commissioner Y.B. Khurania reviewed the progress of the drive on Monday and asked the deputy commisioners of police of the twin cities to expedite the process.
"We have asked the police stations concerned to intensify the drive. The drive against habitual offenders will help us combat various crimes, including robberies and snatching," said Bhubaneswar deputy commissioner of police Anup Kumar Sahoo.

"We recommend names of accused involved in three cases to be booked under Section 110 of the CrPC. The person needs to sign a bond not to indulge in crimes. If they violate that, they then can be lodged in jail for at least a year," said a police officer.
Most offenders hailed from Mancheswar, Khandagiri, Saheed Nagar, Laxmi Sagar and Kharavela Nagar. The police in 2017 booked 228 habitual offenders in Bhubaneswar, while the number stood at 220 in 2016. "Police stations have been asked to prepare a database of criminals in their jurisdiction. They will keep details of their involvement in crimes along with possible hideouts," said a cop.
