Bhubaneswar, July 22: The Biju Patnaik University of Technology, which is in the process of revamping several of its courses, will upload the revised syllabi on the varsity website shortly.
The varsity is preparing new syllabi for the revamp of BTech, MBA and MCA courses, which will be implemented from the 2016-17 academic year. Students getting admission into the university from the upcoming academic year will be the first batch to study under this new curriculum.
According to a senior varsity official: "We have already uploaded the syllabus for the third semester on the website and will shortly upload the ones for the first semester and second semester."
Once the syllabi is available online, students will know what to expect in the new session and also help the teaching faculty to prepare accordingly, the official said.
Varsity authorities said they were implementing the changes after several consultations and meetings with subject experts, taking all their suggestions and opinions into account.
Earlier, several mathematicians had objected to the varsity's decision to omit portions of the subject in the newly designed syllabus for the BTech programme.
Several mathematicians, among them professors of various colleges, under the banner of Odisha Mathematical Society, had said that while there were four compulsory mathematics subjects in the syllabus - one in each semester before - it has been reduced to only two subjects in the new curriculum.
The society, in a memorandum to the technical education department, had said the changes would pose serious problems to those appearing for national-level qualifying tests such as GATE - a mandatory requirement for admission into MTech or PhD programmes.
In a related development, counselling for admissions into different engineering colleges in the state is under way. The Odisha Joint Entrance Examination (OJEE) authorities are taking steps to ensure that students do not fall prey to hoax websites.
"At present, we are verifying the documents of the candidates. We are taking care to ensure that the documents provided are genuine. During previous years, we have had cases where the documents submitted were found to be fake," said OJEE secretary P Sahoo. The counselling for BTech courses will continue till July 27.
