Berhampur, Dec. 27: The process of installing closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras at all police stations in Berhampur police district and various sensitive places here started with installation of four live cameras at Town police station.
Berhampur superintendent of police Anirudh Singh said the CCTVs were being installed under the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network System project, sponsored by the Centre in collaboration with the National Crime Record Bureau and the State Crime Record Bureau.
A total of 581 police stations in the state are supposed to be covered under the network system project, official sources said.
Inspector in charge of Town police station Anil Kumar Mishra said the transmission and monitoring of CCTV footages were being controlled from his office room.
District superintendent of police K.B. Mahapatra said: “Apart from the police stations, the closed-circuit cameras will be installed at strategic locations such as bus stands, railway station, parks, major traffic squares, shopping malls and others,” Mahapatra said.
Inspector in charge of BNPur police station Deepak Kumar Mishra welcomed the initiative in Berhampur. “This system would be a boon for the police personnel. Police administration must be transparent and it would help the police to work in a normal process,” he said.
“I have requested my higher authority to immediately install the cameras at BNPur police station as well,” he said.
