Row over statue
Sambalpur: Tension erupted on the Sambalpur University campus after the newly installed statue of Mahatma Gandhi was found lying on the ground on Tuesday morning. A group of local people gheraoed varsity vice-chancellor C.R. Tripathy demanding inquiry into the incident. “It is a disrespect to Mahatma Gandhi. The varsity authorities should take care of the statue. Security should be provided at the place, where the statue was installed. We want the authorities to inquire into the matter,” said Girija Nayak, an agitator.
Witchcraft
Baripada: Mayurbhanj police have arrested a 30-year-old man on charge of murdering a 65-year-old widow in the suspicion of witchcraft practice and forwarded him to court. The accused, identified as Ashok Mahant of Damudigadi village in the Rairangpur rural police limits, had killed the victim, Dulari Marandi, of the same village on Tuesday night.

Bhubaneswar: Vigilance sleuths arrested a Sevashram Samiti president, Himansu Panigrahi, on charge of taking a bribe of Rs 50,000 from a farmer after promising him to get his paddy sold.
