Berhampur March 6: The state unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would launch a state-wide “jana jagarana” (mass awareness) campaign from March 12 to highlight the “failures and corrupt practices” of the BJD government.

“We would launch the campaign from Kakatpur on March 12. This programme would continue for three to four months and cover all the 147 Assembly constituencies of the state. During the programme, people will be made aware of how the government has looted the state’s wealth by indulging in mining and various other scams,” said BJP state unit president Jual Oram on the concluding day of the party’s two-day state executive meeting.

The BJP has also decided to publish a “vision document” which would contain the programmes of the party if it comes to power. “We would also prepare a chargesheet against the state and the Centre,” Oram said.

The BJP state chief categorically ruled out coalition with any other parties. Replying to a query as to why the BJP choose Ganjam to hold the state executive meeting, Oram said, “Though chief minister Naveen Patnaik represents this district, it is lagging behind on all fronts. There is an acute drinking water scarcity even in Berhampur town. We want to highlight all these issues.”

In its political resolution, the BJP criticised the policies of both the state and the Centre and termed both as “anti-people”.

The party came down heavily on the state government for stopping the anti-Maoist operation. “The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has indirect links with the Maoists. The people were deceived by the manner in which the state government bowed down to the Maoists by conceding to their demands,” said the party resolution.

The party also alleged the kidnapping of the Malkangiri collector and the junior engineer was part of a well-scripted plan to divert public attention from the dal scam.

The party came down heavily on the BJD government for its alleged involvement in the mining and coal scam and failure to check the unabated farmer suicides.

BJP criticised the Centre for neglecting Orissa in the railway sector. “Though the railway ministry gets maximum revenue from Orissa, it has been repeatedly neglecting the state,” the resolution said.

The resolution also mentioned the corruption charges against UPA government including 2-G spectrum scam, Adarsh Housing Society scam and Commonwealth Games scam.
