Big rush to grab smart job

The master system integrator or the mechanism to bring together various smart city projects under one centralised control and management platform got a major boost here today with 82 IT companies evincing interest in the project.

Bhubaneswar, March 21: The master system integrator or the mechanism to bring together various smart city projects under one centralised control and management platform got a major boost here today with 82 IT companies evincing interest in the project.

The participants, majority of them big names in the IT industry, took part in the pre-bid meet held to select companies to implement the master system integrator project of the Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited (BSCL).

The representatives of these companies including BSNL, Wipro, HP, Airtel, TCS, IBM, IL&FS, Schneider Electrical, Cisco, Oracle, Thales, Bosch, Nokia, HFCL, Tech Mahindra, Honeywell, Ortel, CA Technology, L&T, Shapoorji Pallonji, Dell and Logitech showed interest in Rs 585-crore project that will integrate a host of IT-based services.

The services include smart traffic and parking management, Wi-Fi, emergency response system, integrated city operations, smart tracking of multi-modal city transport and surveillance.

The participants, who put forth their queries and suggestions before the BSCL, included equipment manufacturers, system integrators, Internet service providers, local IT players and a few IT-based start-ups.

From the government side, BSCL CEO Vineel Krishna, general manager (operations) Binay Kumar Dash and general manager (engineering and technology) Simanchal Maharana to part.

"The participation is very enthusiastic from across the country," said a senior representative of a well-known IT company told after the pre-bid meeting.

The master system integrator is the backbone of the Bhubaneswar Smart Solutions Project and has been approved by the state government. Once implemented, the master system integrator will transform city governance and public service delivery by leveraging technology. The system integrator will effect changes at the work micro-level and it even extends to reducing incidents of traffic congestion and violation.

The smart tracking management will monitor and dispatch functions for about 475 public service vehicles including buses, PCR vans, ambulances, fire service trucks and water tankers.

Citizens will also be able to get bus related information on their mobile app.

Similarly, the smart parking management system will help manage up to 5,500 on-street parking lots and 1,500 units of multilevel car parking space.

There will be a mobile app for checking availability of parking spaces to facilitate booking.

The system will also ensure smart response in case of an emergency. The system will consist of 1,000 CCTV cameras for surveillance, 30 emergency call boxes to trigger urgent response and a call centre.

The surveillance system will be installed at all strategic locations.
