Cuttack, Aug. 5: The India-New Zealand T20 match, to be held at Barabati Stadium here on November 4, has been cancelled in view of Bali yatra.
Confirming the development, Odisha Cricket Association officials today said the venue had been shifted. The India-New Zealand match has been tentatively rescheduled on December 20. However, one India-Sri Lanka T20 match will be hosted at Barabati Stadium. India will be playing three Tests, three ODIs and three T20 matches against Sri Lanka in the home series from November 15 to December 25.
"We are yet to receive an official communication regarding the changes from the Board of Control for Cricket in India. But, we have been informed about the development over phone," the association's adhoc working committee chairman Dhiren Palai told The Telegraph.
He said the T20 international match between India and New Zealand had to be shifted from Cuttack because of Bali yatra - the week-long annual fair which starts every year on the Kartika purnima day (this year November 4) on the Mahanadi banks in close proximity to the Barabati Stadium.
At least 60 platoons of police are required inside and outside the stadium during any international match in Cuttack. But, nearly 50 platoons will have to be deployed during Bali yatra as its daily average footfall is 1.5 lakh. "We had asked for an international match on any date before October 31 and on or after November 20. The board has accordingly allotted one of the three India-Sri Lanka T20 matches - scheduled to be held in Kochi, Indore and Mumbai," Palai said.
